Wedding photo and video: do you really have to choose?

It’s a question I hear often. “We’re torn between a photographer and a videographer. Our budget won’t stretch to both.”

I understand. And I’ll never tell you that video matters more than photography. They’re two different ways of looking at the same day.

What photography does better

Photography freezes. It captures a moment with surgical precision. The detail of a ring. The expression on a face. A gesture suspended in time.

You’ll hang those images on a wall. You’ll slip them into an album. They’ll be there, visible, every day.

What film does differently

A film doesn’t freeze. It breathes. It moves. It has sound.

The tone of his voice when he says yes. The applause after the kiss. Your best man’s nervous laugh midway through his speech. The song of your first dance.

None of that can live inside a photograph.

They complement each other

The photographer captures stillness. The videographer captures motion. One gives you images to frame; the other gives you a memory to relive on a rainy evening, curled up on the sofa.

If your budget allows, get both. If you have to choose, ask yourself this: in ten years, what will I regret not having?

A practical tip

Book your photographer first: they’re usually the most in-demand. Then get in touch with a videographer. The two work hand in hand on the day, each in their own role, without getting in each other’s way.
