When to book your wedding videographer (and why early)

It’s probably the question I get asked the most, right after price. “When should we book a videographer?” The short answer: sooner than you think.

The real answer: 12 to 18 months ahead

Most couples reach out between one year and a year and a half before their wedding. That’s not a vendor being precious: it’s simply when the best dates are still open.

If your wedding falls on a Saturday between June and September, treat those 12 to 18 months as the right window. For a winter or weekday date, you have a bit more room: six to twelve months is often enough.

Why Saturdays go first

A videographer can only film one wedding per day. Not two. I’m with you from morning to night. I can’t be anywhere else.

In a season, I film between twenty and twenty-five weddings, no more, so I can stay fully available and present for each one. Do the maths: there are only a handful of summer Saturdays, and each date can only be given away once. That’s why peak-season weekends are often booked well in advance.

What you risk by waiting

The scenario I see most often: a couple has locked in their venue, caterer, and photographer, then realises a little late that they’d love a film too. By the time they contact me, the date is already taken.

The problem isn’t just having to look elsewhere. It’s having to choose in a rush, without time to watch full films, to feel whether the connection is right, or to compare at ease. And choosing your videographer is above all a matter of trust.

What if your date is three months away?

Don’t give up. Sometimes a date opens up, and a wedding that’s coming soon is absolutely filmable. Write to me: I’ll tell you honestly whether I’m available, and if not, I’ll point you toward someone I trust.

The simplest thing is to tell me about your plans as soon as your date and venue are set. Even if everything else is still up in the air. Locking in the date means one less worry, and keeping the choice of your videographer rather than settling for whoever’s left.
